Start by explaining your project, and provide reference pictures when possible to help me get a good idea of what you’d like. Be as specific as you’d like, it’s actually very helpful! But don’t worry if you’re not sure about what to say, I’ll ask questions to clarify details and specifications before accepting or declining your commission. The project should be well-defined beforehand in order to avoid complications later on (delays, extra charges, etc.), and ensure that you’re the happiest your could be with the result!
Any specific arrangement differing from my default process should also be mentioned and discussed from the start (deadlines, confidentiality clauses, possible commercial use, files specification...).
I reserve the right to refuse any commission without owing an explanation – but it might simply be that my schedule is already full for the time being.
Process
Upon accepting a commission, I will send you a quote setting the total cost of the commission based on your request. Once agreed upon, I will need your e-mail address in order to send you a PayPal invoice.
I will start working on the commission after receving payment for the invoice.
I will send you rough ideation sketches for validation. You can freely request any number of revisions at this stage, and the discussion will go on until the sketch is agreed upon.
I will then start working on the final layout and rendering of the drawing. I will keep you updated of my progress, and you may inquire about it yourself. However no major revision is expected after the sketch validation.
Deliverables
By default, you will receive an A4-sized digital image of 2480 x 3508 pixels at 300 PPI, as a PNG file. Other specifications can be requested before the start of the commission.
Basic backgrounds (flat-colored or very simple) are included in the base price examples for each type of commission. Transparent files with no background will be provided free of charge on top of the usual files with solid background, as long as they were requested before the sketch validation. Complex backgrounds or decorations should be requested before the start of the commission as they might raise the overall price.
Payment
Payment will be expected in EUR (€) via a Paypal invoice.
Typically, payment must be received in full before the commission is started. Yet I might accept partial payment schedules for known customers depending on the situation.
Sometimes, new specifications or requests might arise during the commission process. For requests that would raise the price over the initial paid invoice, I might offer to issue a new invoice to cover extra costs. If accepted, I will wait for payment of that invoice before resuming work on the commission.
Should any problem arise leading one of us to cancel the commission, refund will be issued based on the work completed on the commission:
- Not started: full refund
- Sketch phase: 75% refund
- Final layout / Lineart: 50% refund
- Color flats: 25% refund
- No refund past this stage
Failure to pay means that you forfeit your rights to the artwork, and any reposting/claiming of the sketches or other progress will stand as a violation of our respective rights.
Timeframe
Commissions will typically take about a month or two to be completed and delivered. However, by default, I will not commit to a strict completion schedule for the commission. I will keep you updated about the progress made on your commission, and give you estimates regarding completion time.
Tell me beforehand if you need me to complete the commission for a specific date – I will tell you if that’s possible, and might agree to meet a specific deadline on a case-by-case basis. For shorter-than-normal timeframes, I may offer to charge an additional "rush fee" for meeting your deadline.
Usage & Rights
You may use and share the artwork for non-commercial and non-profitable purposes. You may resize, crop or edit the artwork.
When sharing the artwork in a public space, you must credit me whenever possible, unless I specifically ask you not to.
You may not claim the artwork as your own, or use it for commercial or profitable purposes, unless I gave you explicit written permission. Rights for commercial use must be negociated upfront and will entail additional costs.
I maintain the right to share my work as I please, such as promotion on social media. However, I can agree to refrain from sharing it for a certain amount of time upon request, on a case-by-case basis.
